Focus on nutritious meal

The PF carried out nutritious meal plans at some program schools too aimed at improving nutrition situation and body quality of needy students while funding needy students by developing sustainable tuition aid programs.

It had been more than 2 years since Xiapu Elementary School of Yidu, Hubei province started the nutritious meal plan. The school provided pupils “50 grams of meat and 2 eggs” a week according to donors wishes. Three years later, the program was replaced by proceeds from the sustainable tuition aid program. Up to now. The nutritious meal plan developed smoothly, improved children's nutrition situation and won parents' praise.

In May of this year Sanguyao Elementary School in Wuqi County , Shaanxi started the nutritious meal plan as well. The school bought instant noodles, sausages and drinks for pupils. Pupils were very happy because there was little opportunity for local children to eat such kind of food. Volunteers, who paid close attention on the program, dissented from the above practice, believed that such an expedient could not change the malnutrition situation of needy pupils, and merely satisfied with children's curiosity about new food. It was contrary to donor's original wishes, far from the PF's goals.

It was an exploring problem for donors, co-partners and the PF how to make good use of limited fund to improve pupils', especially boarders' nutrition. Seeing that pupils with less than RMB one Yuan of food expenses carried heavy study and living burden, we just wanted to spend possible offering in helping those growing children to acquire necessary nutrition.
