Mrs. Cannon's innovative methods of teaching gave trainees a new perspective in learning English language, and her sensitive approach helped students and teachers quickly get into their roles as active learners. Students and teachers in Xinglong County have very few opportunities to meet native English speakers.  In fact, to many teachers this was the first time they heard Americans speaking English in person. Although they were a little nervous and overwhelmed, students and teachers were eager to practice and tried very hard to reduce language barriers and understand educational differences.  As the Phelex Foundation tries to bring in more volunteer teachers to Xinglong schools, the local teachers' and students' English level will be gradually elevated.
