At the evening gala, the locals prepared many splendid performances including martial arts, Peking Opera, and Chinese songs and dances. Towards the end, American students presented the popular Cha-cha Dance and surprisingly sang the Chinese song "The Ocean, My Hometown" with perfect pronuciation, which was received with thunderous applause. Some people even sang along with the American students. It was clear that the song was the climax of the evening.
